Local Government Restructuring Lab

The Tompkins County Age-Friendly Business Certification Program is an initiative designed to foster inclusivity for older adults in the Tompkins County economy. This report evaluates the program’s strengths, including its low-barrier, no-fee model and comprehensive self-audit tool, while identifying gaps in visibility, outreach, and business engagement. Through comparative analysis with eight other U.S. cities and analysis on direct engagement with local organizations, the report offers strategic recommendations to expand participation, strengthen partnerships, and ensure long-term sustainability.
