Graduate Researcher

My work negotiates and questions the relationship between spaces of alterity and architectures of control. As a designer, I tend toward human environments that are generous and connected. I advocate for marginal communities because they destabilize and change dominant societies. Providing people with agency through design is fulfilling, challenging, and expands my own worldview and consciousness about architecture. From a theoretical perspective, I am interested in parallel worlds, multiple states of being, alternative fantasies, introverted urban realms, ambiguous and non-hierarchical space, architectures of resistance and, to use Ozayr Saloojee's words, 'architectures of refusal.' I believe in the power and function of art and the breaking of distinctions between disciplines. I love keeping one foot in the dreamworld of school and discourse, and one foot in the mire of practice. I enjoy spending time with younger designers and artists because they carry the critical energy of the moment.
