Neighborhood Typologies of African urban form
This project develops a granular typology of urban form for Sub-Saharan African cities to better understand how spatial variation shapes environmental burdens such as air pollution, urban heat, and carbon emissions. Using high-resolution building footprints, street networks, and satellite-derived land use products, we will extract morphological and functional indicators at a 1 km grid resolution. Machine learning clustering methods will generate consistent typologies across cities, which are validated with local partners and linked to pixel-level environmental outcomes.
