Architecture and Federation: Modernism and the Movement for Independence in the West Indies
2021 - 2022
Architecture and Federation: Modernism and the Movement for Independence in the West Indies explores the role of architecture and urban planning and design in processes of nation building and attempts at regional integration in the former British colonial territories of the Caribbean. It hinges on the extraordinary period, between 1958 and 1962, when these emerging states were at the threshold of independence and the formation of a “West Indies Federation” as a modern political entity.
