Hantao Sun

Researcher

Hantao Sun is a Master's in Regional Planning '2023 student at Cornell University from Hefei, China. His research interests include critical urban theory, climate adaptation, and urban informality in China. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Land Resources Management from Renmin University of China.

As a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant, he currently works on the project, Risk or Refuge: Inequality in Exposure to Environmental Vulnerability in California. For this, he uses ArcGIS to spatialize six common environmental disasters' historical maps and six climate risk assessments in California to develop an integrated risk index. He is helping to relate this to a vulnerability index with demographic migration data to discern how people’s race and class shape the cumulative pollution and hazard risk they are exposed to over their lifetimes. In addition, he is supporting the NYC-Shanghai comparative adaptation governance research, through literature reviews and field work.
