Healthier Building Materials
EXHIBITION - SPRING 2024
This exhibition showcases the outcomes of the semester-long elective Healthier Building Materials, in which students explored the inherent values of materials by critically examining health-related questions—from the scale of construction details to broader social and political implications. The display features a curated selection of material samples, both self-produced and sourced, that together present an inspiring vision for a more sustainable and health-conscious approach to design and living. Highlighting innovative, non-toxic, and environmentally responsible options, the exhibition emphasizes the urgent need to reduce harmful chemical exposure in our built environments. From bio-based insulation and VOC-free finishes to recyclable textiles and ethically sourced wood alternatives, each sample illustrates how thoughtful design choices can positively impact human well-being and ecological resilience. Visitors and students alike are invited to rethink conventional construction and interior practices, discovering how these healthier materials can be meaningfully integrated into everyday spaces to support long-term health, air quality, and environmental balance.
