Josh Rotbert

Researcher

Josh Rotbert is a recent graduate of the Department of City and Regional Planning from New York City. Josh is interested in urban environmental planning with a focus on using spatial data science to explore the intersection of data visualization technology, land use, and climate change adaptation. His work broadly explores approaches to informing progressive climate policy and adaptation frameworks through cogent spatial data visualization and analysis. He has mobilized data to promote regional adaptation planning among local governments in the Boston and Philadelphia metro areas. Josh has also worked to take on the challenges of integrating data into land governance, contributing to Dr. Shi’s research on the fiscal impacts of climate change. Prior to his time at Cornell, he worked to support local municipal planning in New York's Hudson Valley. Josh received a master’s degree in regional planning from Cornell University, and a bachelor's in anthropology and geography from Bard College.

In the Adaptive Land Lab, he works on the CASA project conducting spatial mapping on the vulnerability of different types of housing to flooding and extreme heat.
