About

The urgent need for billions of square feet of new and renovated building constructions, together with the challenges posed by climate change and urbanization, call for a reevaluation of housing with a focus on energy conservation, sustainable materials, and the long-term usability of buildings.

The Housing Innovation Lab (HiLab) operates at the intersection of performance evaluation and quality-of-life assessment, both within and beyond the scope of the building. It investigates the relationships between the challenges of our time and the architectural considerations that shape housing design and retrofitting, including typological, spatial, and material characteristics.
