Marcos Escamilla-Guerrero

MS. AAD '24 | Cornell Architecture

Marcos is currently an MS.AAD candidate. He holds a B.Arch. from Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico where he is also a licensed architect. During his undergraduate, he was a research team member of the Cities Lab which analyzes and studies local urban conditions and generates urban proposals. After graduating as the best of his class, Marcos practiced at an international firm based in Chicago for 4 years where he was exposed to different typologies ranging from an international airport to a residential mixed-use complex which he led as project manager. Currently, at Cornell, his interests and thesis are both focused on the study of the migratory phenomena between Latin America and the U.S. specifically on the role of architecture —housing and required infrastructures for migrants— in such a convoluted situation, with a special focus on the Mexican territory and the border between Mexico and the U.S. Furthermore, in 2022 he founded his side practice MEAL (Marcos Escamilla Architectural Lab) where he explores paradigm-changing ideas as well as uncommon mixtures of programs such as a greenhouse juxtaposed with a train station.
