Housing is one of the most pressing environmental and social challenges of our time. Addressing climate change, resource scarcity, and urban growth requires not only reducing the environmental footprint of residential buildings but also ensuring that housing promotes health, well-being, adaptability, and dignity for its inhabitants.

The Housing Innovation Lab (HiLab) investigates housing at the intersection of environmental performance and lived experience. Through interdisciplinary research, the lab examines how spatial organization, building typologies, material choices, and regulatory frameworks shape both ecological outcomes and residents' quality of life. By integrating quantitative performance assessment with qualitative measures of occupant experience, HiLab develops evidence-based approaches to designing and retrofitting housing that advances environmental sustainability while improving housing quality and residents' well-being.
