Adam Crist
Graduate Researcher
Adam Crist is a native of Zanesville, Ohio and U.S. Navy Veteran of ten years. In the military, Adam served as a Korean linguist in Monterey, California and on the island of Oahu, and then worked for the Navy JAG Corps as a paralegal and legal investigator supporting NCIS in Newport, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C. During his military tenure he had the opportunity to volunteer in preservation efforts and lead tours at Pearl Harbor historic sites, the Naval War College and Museum, the USS CONSTITUTION, and was assigned to honors and ceremonies units in Hawaii and the Capital region where he performed in military commemorations and funeral details. Before joining the military, Adam worked as a wine salesman, conducting public and private tastings in central Ohio; and worked for Schoenstein & Co. Pipe Organ Builders in San Francisco, California, where he helped construct, repair, and clean pipe organs throughout the Bay Area. Prior to joining the Historic Preservation and Planning graduate program at Cornell University, he worked as a paralegal for the Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C. Adam's current preservation interests include adaptive reuse practice and policy in anticipation of climate migration due to global warming and environmental disaster; environmental psychology as historic places affect emotion and behavior; and preservation challenges in preparing for and responding to manmade and natural disaster.
